A Baby's Guide to Surviving Dad

1 - Books
A Baby's Guide to Surviving Dad
by Benjamin Bird
Illustrated by Tiago Americo
Expectant parents spend countless hours prepping for their baby's arrival, but once the baby is born, there are only six things a new dad really has to know how to do. The Baby s Guide to Surviving Dad teaches new dads those six things. Called a book for "adults who need a laugh to survive parenthood" by Kirkus Reviews, kids will also love this cute, quirky picture book, and the on-the-snotty-nose depiction of fatherhood told from a baby's point of view will have new parents laughing (and crying) their sleep-deprived eyes out. Perfect for a first Father's Day, a baby shower, or a baby welcoming gift."
A fab little, witty book. Daddy found it quite funny.

A Baby's Guide to Surviving Mum

1 - Books A Baby's Guide to Surviving Mum
by Benjamin Bird
Illustrated by Tiago Americo
This quirky, colorful picture book is the first-ever survival guide to help baby take on the "dangers” of Mum: Tickle Monsters, Belly Zerberts, and more! Little ones will laugh out loud as parents read about (and recreate) these dangers, while adults will enjoy the wry humor and survival guide parody.
I would certainly put it in a gift basket at a baby shower. I would recommend. A nice short read with a cup of tea, loved the pictures.

Aaron's Star Book

1 - Books
Aaron's Star Written by Daddy For Mummy
A new book for parents and families that have experienced the loss of a child during term, neo-natal care, or early life-'Daddy' wrote a story titled ‘Aaron’s Star’ for Aaron’s Mummy in an attempt to make sense of what happened, and explain that Aaron’s life force lives on.‘Aaron’s Star’ takes the parent on a journey where Aaron shares a poignant message in his song of life that he asks his Mummy to sing in her own life.

Thoughts are with the author as to write about it in such a manner indicates they have lost. It is very well written and illustrated, and is reminding me to be thankful for what I have. Thank you so very much for sending this.

Awakening Child By Heather Grace

1 - Books A journey of inner transformation through teaching your child mindfulness and compassion
The lives we lead, particularly in the Western world, are technologically overburdened and spiritually impoverished. Our children can tell us the various merits of different operating systems for electronic devices, but are rarely in touch with how different emotions are experienced in the body, or how it feels to bring kindness to a moment of difficulty. They are bombarded almost constantly with information at a rate that mankind even 50 years ago would have struggled to begin to comprehend, and mental illness is at an all-time high. Research indicates that one of every four adolescents will have an episode of major depression during high school, with the average age of onset being 14 years of age. The human race is at a tipping point, and we have no sane choice but to begin to awaken the capacities within us that have too-long lain dormant. We can choose to lead a child towards awakening, and thus awaken ourselves.
I used a number of the exercises with my son, who has ADHD, and after the initial giggles, messing about and talking whilst trying to relax, he came round and enjoyed just sitting and thinking with me which was great to have one one-to-one time. I also talked through some of the strategies with my 5 year old son whilst we had our evening cuddles on the couch. He listened and we relaxed together. The book made me think about my everyday life, about how much we rush around and don’t take time to just sit, think and talk to each other. It was a gentle reminder to slow down and enjoy things more.

Dirty Tricks for Parents gives parents tools to easily con their little one, from short one-line cons to longer, step-by-step scams. Learn the power of "magic" to convince your child to do practically anything, the value of having a stopwatch for timing how "fast" he can do something, and other tricks for keeping your kid clean, fed, clothed and happy - even if she would rather be dirty, hungry, naked and bored.

Sleep and Your Special Needs Child Book

1 - Books

Sleep and Your Special Needs Child (The Journey Through Assessment) Paperback  by Antonia Chitty  (Author), Victoria Dawson (Author)

Sleep is vital for children's well-being. Without enough sleep their health, mood, behaviour and learning ability may all be impaired. Research shows that children with additional needs are more likely to have sleep disorders than typically developing children, and that without intervention these problems will persist. Victoria Dawson is a successful sleep practitioner and founder of the Children's Sleep Charity. Here, together with health writer Antonia Chitty, she shares her own experiences, those of other sleep experts and those of parents. While most parents of babies expect sleep problems to resolve within months, parents of children with special needs can find them lasting into adolescence and beyond. This is a pressing issue for parents, as disturbed sleep can cause depression, relationship problems and a weakening of the immune system. The majority of parents receive little or no help with sleep problems, and few families have access to sleep practitioners. This book addresses sleep problems using a highly successful behavioural and cognitive approach to sleep management, and is the first book to explain these approaches in detail. The practical advice contained is invaluable for parents who want to feel more in control and more confident about tackling sleep issues in a way that is appropriate for their child.

This book is amazing. Definitely great value and I would even pay more knowing how much it has helped. I would certainly buy this book and highly recommend. It has been an invaluable source of information, help and advice and has helped me so much.

STAY CALM AND CONTENT Author Cat Williams

1 - Books

NO MATTER WHAT LIFE THROWS AT YOU
Life brings daily challenges, both large and small, for us all. Are you sometimes stressed, anxious, or emotional?Do you ever feel something is missing, even when you think you should be happy? Are there people with whom you don’t get on well, but wish you did? Have you ever wondered why you behave a certain way, do or don’t do certain things, or have done something you now regret? The author’s clients suggested this book be written so that anyone could find encouragement and new ideas within its pages. Personal short-stories highlight how you can control or change how you feel about yourself and how you can positively influence your life and the lives of everyone around you. It is not a typical self-help book, you don’t need to have a ‘problem to solve’, this book is for everyone. Using straight-forward, jargon-free language Stay Calm and Content freely discusses many of the challenging issues of life, most of which are likely to affect us, or our loved ones at some point in our lives. It includes stress, marriage, family relationships, affairs, work, parenting, sibling rivalry, motherhood, divorce, teenagers, arguments, criticism, depression, communication, childhood, bullying, chronic pain, self-harm, addiction, suicide, bereavement, kindness, abuse, the battle of the sexes, and more. People who find a way to stay calm and content no matter what life might throw at them all have similar thoughts, behaviours, and attributes, which can be learnt by anyone, this book shows you how. The central theme is self-esteem and how it is affected every day by our circumstances and the people we come across.

Excellent value for money, every family should have a copy. I would definitely retain this as a guide and would consider buying it. I would be happy to recommend this to others. A very enjoyable read that provided food for thought and for the soul

Tales From A Travelling Mum

1 - Books

Tales From a Travelling Mum: Navigating Europe with a Babe-in-Arms is the personal story of travels I embarked on with my young family to Norway, Greece, France and Spain during the first two years of my daughter’s life. Although essentially it is a travelogue, running throughout you will find advice related to feeding, sleeping, playing and pacifying a baby or toddler on the plane, boat, train, bus, as well as in the car. I hope this makes both an enjoyable and practical read for parents new to travelling with their children. You can expect to read about boat trips in Norway, hay-making in rural France, navigating Athens with a buggy, daily life in a small village in the Spanish mountains and a life-changing road trip; as well as stories from fellow travelling mums, both near and far. My hope is that this book will highlight the fact that travel need not stop when love and babies come along, and can be adapted to suit your dreams as well as your budget.

A really nice book. Useful if you're thinking of travelling with a young one. A humorous read regardless of your travel plans.

The Healing of the 1lb Baby by Marie Delanote

1 - Books
The bond between mother and child is one without equal in the history of sentient life. It encompasses avenues of connection which, to this day, have yet to be fully understood. But for Marie Delanote, the outermost shrouds of that bond were briefly lifted when her daughter Elouisa entered our world following a mere twenty-four-week pregnancy. The infant weighed little more than a pound, and in the ensuing fight for survival, hidden spiritual ties between Marie and Elouisa became increasingly manifest. Together they uncovered the chakras, mental triggers, and resultant physical events that once led to the crippling nightmare of premature birth, but would now serve as the only tools by which they could survive and outlast the shared threat to their lives. The Healing of the 1lb Baby is the true story of that which lies beyond the simple sight of man; it is the true story of physical effects wrought by unbridled energies; but above all else, it is the true story of a mother and daughter who lifted one another from the very depths of mortality in order to claim a second chance at life.
Paperback: £5.99 or Kindle Edition £1.79
I will certainly try the mind healing as I never knew about this until I read this book. Good value for money and I would purchase and would certainly recommend. I really enjoyed reading this book; it really opened my eyes to people’s different circumstances.

The Midwife of Hope River

The Midwife of Hope River By Patricia Harman
As a midwife working in rural poverty during the Depression, Patience Murphy's only solace is her gift: the chance to escort mothers through the challenges of childbirth. Just beginning, she takes on the jobs no one else wants: those most in need-and least likely to pay. Patience is willing to do what it takes to fulfil her mentor's wishes, but starting a midwife practice means gaining trust, and Patience's secrets won't allow her to let anyone in.The Midwife of Hope River beats with authenticity as Patience faces seemingly insurmountable conditions: disease, poverty, and prejudices threaten at every turn. From the dangerous mines of West Virginia to the terrifying attentions of the Ku Klux Klan, Patience must strive to bring new light, and life, into an otherwise cruel world.

It is a fabulous book, not what I would normally read but I would definitely recommend it as it was such a good read.

The Wonder Weeks Book

1 - Books Gold Award Recipient Mom's Choice Awards The Wonder Weeks describes in easy-to-understand terms the incredible developmental changes and regression periods that all babies go through during the first 20 months of their lives. Age-related fluctuations and the need for body contact and attention are all related to major and quite dramatic changes in the brains of children. These changes enable a baby to enter a whole new perceptual world and, as a consequence, to learn many new skills. Wonder week by wonder week you ll discover the dates in the first 20 months when all babies take ten major development leaps. Learn how to encourage each leap forward. Help your baby with the three Cs of fussy behavior: Cranky, Clingy and Crying. Recognize the on-set of stressful times and join your children in coping with them. Based on the scientific- and parental-world-changing discovery of a phenomenon: all normal, healthy babies appear to be more fussy at very nearly the same ages, regression periods, and sleep less in these phases, The Wonder Weeks will help your baby, and you, get the most out of these developmental phases I loved the book; it was spot on 9 times out of 10 and helped me to understand the different stages of my baby’s development. It is a great book, very accurate, informative, and reassuring and a lovely read.

Tiny Steps - My First Year Record Book by Leanne Sawyer

1 - Books My family were dealt a card many families would describe as their worst nightmare. The premature birth of our first daughter. This one event lead to what can only be described as an incredibly traumatic roller-coaster ride of emotion and events for everybody involved. Since this, my family and I have selflessly pioneered many fund raising events. I even shaved my head and organised a charity first birthday party to help generate funds for the charities and hospitals without whom, my daughter wouldn’t be the ray of sunshine she is today.

Only through living this did I realise that there was nothing available to me to document the journey that my family and I went through.

Even in this digital age, there is nothing as satisfying as looking through something as simple as a baby book. To see how your child has grown and progressed over the first year and to have something to share with them later in life. This is a right that should not be denied to any mother, least of all the mother of a premature or sick baby, as they go through so much fight to be here.

With the wounds still healing and the constant hospital visits over the following months and years, there were moments that we thought nobody would be able to fight through, let alone a pre-term baby. I soon came to realise I had no book, nothing to accurately reflect on the journey we had been through. All I could find were baby books for full term baby's, I didn't want something that would only serve as a constant reminder of how early she was, but instead see her as the tiny miracle she is.
This isn't just any book.
It brings a degree of normality to a time in life anybody would describe as a nightmare situation to be in. Just having a book like this available, shows any parent in this situation that they aren't alone. That they aren't the only families who have gone through this.

Bizziebaby Gold Award winner 2016

As this is a first year book I have not completed it as my baby is only 5 months but I really look forward to filling in the rest of book in. The thing I like most about this book is that it has all the ‘firsts’ in that other baby books just don’t have like first cuddles and first time I could breathe without assistance, I like it so much I’m going to buy another for his twin brother.
