Don’t Kick Up a Fuss, Gus! – By – Adria Meserve

Gus is very cross when Mum and Dad tell him they have to go on a long journey away from the dustry plains where he likes to play, and he kicks up a really big fuss.  The longer the journey goes on, the worse Gust gets! But, after travelling a long time and playing all the travelling games his family can devise for him, he sees in the distance where it is they are going – the waterhole! It’s a whole new place to play with exciting opportunities Gus didn’t have before, and he realises that the journey could well be worthwhile!

•Ideal for reading before long journeys with young children.

I thought the book looked interesting.  The products available online look interesting though do seem to be expensive.  However, you can purchase this as Hardback or Paper Back which is only £5.99.  I was impressed with the activity section on the website.  I was disappointed to note some of the links on the website were not working and the competition was out of date by 6 months.  I thought the quality of the book was very good.  Darach was not overly interested in the book.  Compared to books he normally reads, this booked lacked bright colours on the cover.  However this is a picture book and we both thought the illustrations were very good.  They were very detailed.  Darach really enjoyed looking at the animals.  Darach showed interest in the storyline and found it funny.  He enjoyed reading the book although he found it hard to maintain concentration with it.  However when reading the story to Darach he thought it was funny.  I think the storyline was too long for Darach’s age group and would be ideal for him when he is a little older.   I thought the book was very good, high quality and I really liked the detailed illustrations.  Personally I think the book was expensive as a hardback, and may offer value for money to an older child, but you can purchase this as paperback for only £5.99.  A nice picture book to look through with my son and read the story together.   A very detailed book with great illustrations and a funny storyline.  Angela Rogan – Darach Aged 1 Year 8 Months

Lovely illustrations with lots of character! A good website with lots of info on their books and authors but a shame that 5 out of the 8 links on the left hand side did not work.  This will always put people off browsing further I think. This book is quite thin and fairly flimsy – definitely one for parents to keep hold of less it gets ‘toddlered’! Jack wasn’t that interested I’m afraid but he is fairly obsessed with things he knows at the moment (e.g. TV show books) so it is quite difficult to get him interested in things like this!  I thought the illustrations in the book were beautiful and full of character!  They made me smile!  Once I got Jack to sit still and show some interest in this book he did interact and kept pointing to things in the book. We both enjoyed it and I think it’s a great story to illustrate how frustrated toddlers (small animals!) can get when faced with certain things in life!   As the illustrations are great and the story is fab it has been a stimulating book for us to read to Jack.   Really liked this book, thought it had a great story and theme and the illustrations are fab……just keep hold of it as it is fairly flimsy and could suffer in the ‘wrong’ hands! I feel the price for the hardback book is expensive, but reasonable price for the paperback book at £5.99.   Would certainly recommend to anyone with a toddler that has experience tantrums/frustration!  Great story that will appeal to the parents of all toddlers!  Nicola Ellender – Jack Aged 3 Years

Looked an interesting paperback book upon arrival.  We all thought the illustrations were lovely, and really helped you fall in love with the character.  A good website, informative and lots of books to check out. Quality good, same as most paperback books. My children really enjoyed this book and we had fun reading it together and sometimes Nicholas would try and read to Aspen (sometimes just making up his own story from the illustrations, but this was a good thing). The illustrations are beautiful and just makes the character so real and you can relate to everything he is going through.  full of character!  They made me smile!  A good book we all enjoyed reading and some lessons to be learnt.  A very well presented book, good story and certainly stimulated questions and the imagination with my 2.  Price is reasonable for a paperback, but would prefer to see it priced at £3.99 as makes it more affordable.  Already recommended to family and friends, and we are all keen readers in our household.  Lovely story, great illustrations and a nice book to read together and keep for them to read themselves when they are older.
