Hansel & Gretel on a magical journey through the woods to the house of sweets and gingerbread!

Having been taken to the woods by their father and stepmother, Hansel and Gretel soon get lost amongst the trees and set out on their own adventure.  Along the way they meet a host of weird and wonderful creatures, including Rupert the Raven, Soren the Hedgehog, Bille the mouse and a couple of cheeky elves!  When the children start get hungry, they go on a woodland forage of song and dance, and come upon a magical house of cake and candy, with window panes of clear sugar.  Of course, Hansel and Gretel are lured by this wonderful candy cottage and start to snack on the delicious roof and the delectable walls…. but all is not what it seems in this magical forest… Lurking within the house is an evil witch who cannot wait to tuck into the children as a tasty treat!  Will the children escape from her wickedness? And will they ever find their way home to their own safe little cottage of bricks and mortar?

I had not been to this theatre before so had no initial impression.  We called the theatre en-route and they were very helpful and explained where to park and then how far a walk it was the theatre.  The carpark was above the theatre and it was very reasonably priced.  The entrance was well presented but did not look like an entrance to a theatre!  It looked more like a library.  Once inside the environment was fine.  Music was not too loud to be scary and seating was clearly marked out.  My son loved this theatre experience.  We would like to attend the theatre more often but due to location and cost it is not possible.  Not very much to offer in the way of food and drink and the prices were on the steep side.  Myself and my husband found the production a bit repetitive for us but it kept my son’s attention all the way through.  He did enjoy it very much and the last song that was sung was stuck in his head on the car journey home.  I do not feel this is a theatre but as a small room with a stage which holds small productions it was very good.  It’s a great location and easy parking with helpful staff.  My son loved it due to it being like a pantomime with the "It’s behind you” being used several times. Good place to start before attending a proper theatrical performance forchildren. Kirsti Walters – Harrison 6 Years

My initial impression of this theatre was it’s a very nice building, which draws you to the front to view what’s on at the time.  It was very easy to find, it’s on a one way system so can’t really miss it to be honest. There is a very large multi-story car park 100 yards from the entrance, at £2.20 for up to 3 hours.  The entrance was very good, the sign "Dugdale Centre” is very visible and the glass front looks nice with wide doors for easy access for disabled persons.  The environment was very nice, staff were there to greety ou, and was very friendly.  Nicole and Sophie really enjoyed it, had smiles all through it.  There was not a moment where they was not watching, it really had them gripped.  They said they loved the singing and asked a lot of questions about the nasty step mum and why she didn’t like the children, but was happy when they were reunited with their dad.  We love going to see shows, the children love getting involved.  Toilets were very clean and smelt nice, tea and coffee was nice, and was served quickly.  The theatre had a very safe atmosphere.  At £32 for a family ticket I think it’s very good value for money. We are looking at what is on throughout the year and want to go again.  I have already recommended it to others.  I have spoken to a few mums at the school and told them to check it out.  Kids enjoyed it, me and my mum enjoyed it, singing was fantastic, acting was great, was funny and sad but perfect balance, audience participation was great, seats were comfy and no one sitting in your way by the way the seats sit.  And stage props were just how they are supposed to be; 5/5 all the way. Had a really good day out with the kids, really felt welcomed by the staff and felt I needed to comeback to the Dugdale Centre again, we are looking forward to doing this.  Mary Barton – Nicole 7 Years and Sophie 5 Years

We have never been to this place before and was all really looking forward to it.  It was very easy and straightforward to find the theatre.  We went by car and found the car park facilities easy to get to too. The entrance to the theatre was lovely and there were plenty of staff to help you and welcome you.  Once inside we found the environment safe and the facilities were clean and easy to find.  Gemma really enjoyed her theatre experience.  We have been to shows before but not like this and she loved it.  I must admit we loved the show too and it kept my daughters attention all the way through.  She was talking all the way home in the car about the show which proves she enjoyed it. This show offers excellent value for money and we will definitely be visiting again.  I have already recommended it to family and friends.  It was a lovely show which all of us enjoyed going to see.  Sarah Simms – Gemma 5 Years
