Garden Games Giant Snakes and Ladders

Garden Games takes this very traditional family game to a totally new dimension. The giant version puts you right at the heart of the game, where you, yourself act as the counter and move up and down the snakes and ladders of the game. We have also added some new features for extra fun. You may find yourself having to stand on one leg, or taking the opportunity to switch places with any other player on the board. Or, just when you thought you were never going to win, your throw may count double and put you right back in the game.We felt that this traditional family board game could work on a much larger scale in the garden for parties and well just for the fun of it. In 1998 the idea went into planning with the Cardy family working out the board layout so that the game played well for all the family. We found that using counters was less fun than having the players be the counters themselves! The mat that we supply today with our Giant Snakes and Ladders game was designed over many months of playing and replaying the game to ensure that the ladders and the snakes were placed in just the right locations to ensure that the board play was fun yet challenging. So to say the game is tried and tested for fun would be and understatement!!!!After many months of testing and reworking the Garden Games Giant Snakes and Ladders game went on sale in the summer of 1999.Garden Games Snakes and Ladders set comes with a Three metre square PVC playing mat with reinforced eyelets and edging. Perfect to get everyone up and playing! The set also includes lawn pegs to secure the mat to the lawn or grass area and a huge inflatable traditionally numbered black and white plastic dice.

This looked like a fun family game. The packaging was strong; robust cardboard packaging. This kept both my children entertained for quite some time, as they have the board game version so they were familiar with it already but to be able to play it outside in all weathers went down very well. I found this game helped my 4 year old learn to recognise numbers on the dice and also aided her counting skills. This game kept my children’s attention for quite a while, in fact for longer than other games they have for both indoors and outdoors.  We used the dice for other things too; to play hopscotch and for throwing games as well. This game is very sturdy and robust. The plastic sheet was fine in both sun and snow and easily wiped clean when wet. Also the dice was fine even when dropped onto shingle in the garden. The quality is great and survived two children tugging at various parts of it. Initially I did think this game was expensive but it has been used many times and I feel it will last us many more summers and winters to come. I would most certainly buy this product and others form the same range in future.  We used the game whilst friends were round and they too were impressed by it. It is a great family, outdoors game. It kept the whole family active and entertained for quite sometime. Naomi Roebuck – Ella 4 Years and Oliver 6 Years

I thought this looked great fun for the kids. The packaging was bright and interesting and will definitely make people look at it. Both my kids loved this game especially the giant dice that they had to roll and going up and down the ladder’s and snakes.  It definitely helped my 3 year olds development as it helped with his numbers and he could recognise each number. It also helped with counting. It kept the attention of my older child more than the younger one as he understood what he had to do; we had to tell my youngest when he had to move etc.  My children have found another way to use the dice; it makes a good football! I was quite surprised on how sturdy the mat and dice was.  Both are in one piece still.  I think the Snakes & Ladders game is of great quality especially for younger children as they can be a bit rougher.  It offers excellent value for money. I think any family would love to have this in there game collection and is definitely worth the money.  I would by this game as my kids love anything outside and it gets the whole family involved. I would recommend this to anyone. All of my family have enjoyed playing the Giant Snakes & Ladders game, even the Nan’s & Grandad’s. It is really good fun and it will be used all summer as easy to store. Sarah Farrugia – Luca 6 Years and Gino 3 Years

My initial impression of this product was it looks good and well-made and looked like it could be lots of fun. Personally I think the packaging looked a little dated and could have be modernised. The game is really good for fun and also for learning.  It gets the child to recognise how many dots there are on the dice and assists with their counting skills.  It helps with their learning development and also their hand eye coordination with throwing the dice etc. I t kept their attention for a time, but as the game is ‘outside’ they do get distracted with other things going on. This was probably due to the fact we had to take the game to the park as it was far too big to fit into our garden.  The toy mat is very sturdy as is the dice, but it would probably be easy to puncture if caught on a sharp object such as a prickly hedge.  This product is very good quality for what it is. I would like a standard dice included in the pack such as a foam type, this is due to the fact it is hard to blow up the dice without a specialised pump. Maybe a handheld pump could be included in the kit? It’s an excellent product, but I wouldn’t pay the asking price if I were to buy it.  I would recommend it to others if they were happy to pay the money.  We enjoyed the product but I can’t imagine it would be something we would use that much. This is due to the overall size and the fact the children do get distracted.  The dice was hard to blow up and for the price charged, some sort of pump should be included. It would also help if the squares were numbered, as when you run off to retrieve the dice, it’s difficult to remember where you were. Lorna Nolan – Tilley 4 Years and Harry 2 Years
