Geomag Glitter Panels 35 Pieces Magnetic Construction Set Reviews

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed when I initially opened the box. I just saw a few bits of plastic and a box. It was a little underwhelming. The concept is great. Using metal balls as pivot points gives you multiple options for creating shapes, as well as movement. Instructions clear with useful pictures. I was surprised at how quickly my 5 year old got stuck in to making shapes with the balls and magnets. He did find the plastic frames a bit tricky to attach so tended not to use them. I can’t say that he has noticed the colours at all, he has tended to focus on the function. This toy has inspired him to design, he would make all kinds of shapes and role play with them (e.g. swirling a long snake around the table). He tended to not use the glitter panels. They were a bit fiddly for him. This did keep him entertained as he was happy for quite a while just creating shapes with the magnets and balls. He has only played with it three times as I have to keep it out of sight of my two 2 year olds due to the balls (I was very relieved that the balls were not magnetic- I don’t think I would have let any of my kids play with small magnets). He played up on the kitchen table, away from his younger sisters and on a flat surface. Harrison loved the magnets. I really liked the concept of the toy, giving kids the tools to inspire creativity. The magnet box to store everything is absolutely essential in my view. My twins are nearly 3 and although they love magnets and would enjoy playing with the game, I would be concerned to let them play with the balls just yet. Again, I don’t think they would quite manage the panels either as my 5 year old still struggled a bit. But yes, it was definitely suitable for my 5 year old overall. While I can see that the magnets and balls are good quality and the box for them is neat, it does feel like a lot of money for what arrives. I would personally prefer a reduction in packaging and no panels and a slightly cheaper price. If it was on offer I would definitely buy this as a gift. I would recommend as it really is great for creativity and sustaining play away from a screen (not easy nowadays): For the magnets and balls, I don’t think the panels add value and they are just more plastic to break and end up in land fill. I see longevity in the magnets and even after the kids are grown they can still be useful. The balls can also be used to play marbles or other games. I really enjoyed watching my 5 year old play with this toy and seeing where his imagination took him. He made shapes, he used the balls as pivots to create movement, he role played with his creations and just really enjoyed playing. I think use of the panels is limited and I’d question their necessity but overall I’m very happy with this product. Louise Hall – Harrison 5 Years

It looked a good quality product. It is something I have seen before and I like the idea of it. Good clear instructions. My daughter found this easy to use and make her own shapes. My daughter did enjoy the colour and glitter and the glitter was a big bonus. I’m not sure Harriet was really worried about the colours she just enjoyed making shapes with them. Harriet made a cube house for her toys! This would keep her entertained for around 30-40 minutes. She played with this toy about 4-5 times. This was kept in her playroom to use when she wanted to. My daughter loved making shapes and the magnetic element. I liked how she could get creative with making shapes. Liked the storage box this comes with as you can keep all secure in one place until ready to use again. I think the age guide is appropriate, the size makes it easy for little hands. I liked the product but think it is a bit overpriced for the amount you get. I would mention this toy to friends and family but I would highlight the price. Great product but you don’t get a huge amount for your money. Great quality and I like the storage box except the panels don’t fit in it. Fun to play with and make shapes but would be better if you got more pieces in the set for the amount it costs. Kate Cleverley – Harriet 4 Years

Excited by the box, slightly confused when we opened it as we weren’t really sure how the shapes, magnet sticks and balls were all supposed to be used together. More complex than expected/needed to be. The picture instructions were good and Archie was able to copy some of them to make things. We already have some magnetic tile toys which are a firm favourite and these were much harder to use – most fun was had just playing with the magnetic sticks on their own. Did feel that the glitter or colour particularly stood out to Archie, a lot of the toys he plays with are bright colours so these just blended in. Made most of the shapes in the instructions but then lost interest and was just making lines with the magnetic sticks. Unfortunately this did not keep Archie entertained for very long. I would say he used this toy about three or four times, once he integrated the magnetic sticks with other magnetic toys they had a lot of fun with them. This was mainly played with in the living room. Archie loved the magnetic sticks the most. I liked that it came with storage box however it was annoying the shape panels didn’t fit into the storage. It was nice to be able to keep the magnets together (and reassuring as we also have a 2 year old and the balls were a bit small for me to feel comfortable if they were not shut away) but was frustrating the shapes didn’t fit in and these ended up getting mixed in with other toys. I don’t think at three there would be much fun to be had with these and probably need to be four or five to be able to enjoy them. The magnets are strong and tricky to manoeuvre for a 3 year old. I feel the other magnetic tile type toys are better value for money. I would not buy this as I feel other magnetic toys on the market offer long term enjoyment as the structures are more varied and robust. I would recommend other magnetic toys over these for the above reasons. Underwhelming colours, difficult to use and easy to lose bits. Storage didn’t fit in all of the toy. Magnetic sticks were great fun, especially combined with other existing toys but overall the product was disappointing. David East – Archie 5 Years
