Letter to Pluto By Lou Treleaven

Jon’s teacher wants to keep the art of letter writing alive, and starts an interstellar penpal programme. Jon is not impressed especially as his penpal, Straxi, is from Pluto, the most boring, smelliest and far away place in the whole solar system. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she’s a girl!A hilarious story of friendship, annoying teachers, planet saving and, of course, letter writing!

Bright cover with an eye catching design. My son flicked through the
book but didn’t want to read it. He is however only just getting into books he
can read himself and has a few firm favourites he is not easily swayed from!
However sat and listened when I read some aloud and wanted to look at the
illustrations. We enjoyed looking at the little pictures; they inspired my son
to read the letters to understand what they were referring to. It took him a
while but once I had read some to him he wanted to finish it. The layout is
different to what he is used to so put him off to start but I did explain why
it was written the way it was which he seemed happy with. He asked a lot of
questions as think the story was a little above his reading age. He said he
liked it and gave a detailed description of parts to his grandparents! I think
my son is maybe a little young for the book. He was very able to read it but it
didn’t hold his attention like others. I will bring it out again at another
time for another try. I really liked the
way the book was written (would have loved it as a child myself!). For my child
it was not something he would choose to read but is very set on how a book
should look and hard to change his mind at times. I am sure given another year
or 2 he will go back to and enjoy the quirkiness. I really liked the way the
book was written and believe my son will too once he is over his other author
obsession and ready to move on! Certainly would recommend to sons friends
mums/dads. A fun book written in a quirky way which I myself really enjoyed! Naomi Brown – Lucas 6 years

Liked the
look of the cover, bright, and caught your attention. For my son ideal as had rocket and planets on
front so he was intrigued. Wanted to start reading as soon as this book
arrived. The illustrations are great and
help enhance the story and the message.
My son was not sure at first like the boy in the book but the more we
read the book the more he grew to understand the story and wanted to find out
what happened next. This had a great
message not only on how people can build a friendship but also the importance
of writing a letter which I believe is a skill sadly being lost in this day and
age. Now my son enjoys writing thank you
notes and little letters to Granny and Gramps.
It also covered the importance of caring for a planet and a strong Eco
message. The story was fun to read and
enjoyed by both of us. Certainly
stimulating as made hin ask so many questions and also now he wants to get his
own pen pal. A really well written book,
fun to read and a gripping story. I
would buy more from this author. I
already have recommended this book. A
story we all enjoyed with strong message about friendship, caring for your
planet and the thrill of writing. Lynsey

Cover was
bright and inviting. Not sure this would
appeal to Tanya as just getting to grips with reading. She wanted to find out more and the
illustrations certainly held her interest.
We would read this together and it certainly sparked lots of
questions. A lot about writing letters
as we do not seem to do this so much now.
Tanya wanted to know all about letters and how we used to write to each
other when I was younger. The story also
helped her understand about friendships with people from different cultures and
it was great how it incorporated in a great way how a planet was saved. This was certainly stimulating and we have
been discussing many aspects of this book.
Any book that gets children asking why has been a success. I would purchase this book as a present. Already recommended to friends as their
children would love the story. This book
has a lot to offer and we all enjoyed reading this story and seeing how the
whole story evolved. Well worth
reading. Sam Philpot – Tanya 6
