Mula and the Snooty Monkey Reviews

The front cover looked very colourful and little one liked the colour of the monkey and the flowers on the cover. My little one was drawn to the book due to the colours and pictures, she liked the clear big letters on the cover and the pink monkey. On the whole my youngest did enjoy the story and my eldest liked to read the book too. Mula and the snooty monkey was about a tiger and her fly friend doing yoga and Svadi the monkey laughing at them until he realises that he should do what makes him happy and not to worry about what others think. My daughter felt sad that Svadi was poking fun at Mula doing her yoga and that Svadi wouldn’t join in. She felt better when Svadi joined in dancing and singing. My little one enjoyed doing the suggested yoga poses in the back of the book and has asked to learn some more. My daughter is very conscious of others feelings and her own considering her age. She thinks you should just do what makes you happy as long as you don’t hurt others. We quite liked the bright colourful images in the book and the illustrations helped show my youngest the story and let her “retell” the story. We read this book 1 or 2 times a week depending on what my little one has been doing in school.
She liked the monkey dancing and singing and enjoying himself. I liked that the story was a bit different to others and the bold words meant my little one could read along as she read the words in bold and I read the rest. I thought the illustrations were lovely and the colours were bright. The pictures told the story and showed some of the yoga poses to try. I agree with the age range my little one is 4 nearly 5 and she really enjoyed the story and wanted to practice the poses, she understood that the monkey wasn’t being nice teasing the tiger but could understand why. I think the book is good quality, the pages are sturdy that a younger child can turn the pages and they won’t rip and they aren’t too think that they feel babyish. Front cover was sturdy and had a nice finish to it. I think this book is good value for money, the paperback is £6.99 which is about average price for this sort of book. I would consider purchasing the other books that are available. There is a nice moral in the story. I would recommend to friends and family I think the story was good and the quality of the book was good. My little one enjoyed reading the book and doing the poses. Good overall book, nice pictures, well written and lovely pictures. We really enjoyed reading this book and trying out the yoga poses that were at the end. Lovely pictures and word in the book and the moral is good, do what makes you happy. Bethan Lloyd – Poppy 4 Years

It was a nice bright cover and good size book. It illustrations were interesting and the page quality lovely, it didn’t feel like a cheap book or one that was going to be too short. Bright and colourful, the picture of the monkey did draw in Alexander to the book and he wanted to know what it was. He sat through the story and copied the poses at the end of the book but he was getting restless near the end of the story. He thought the poses looked silly when the tiger was doing them but he was happy to try them himself and found them quiet funny and enjoyed doing them at the end of the book. He found the poses amusing more than relaxing but did really enjoy trying them, the last one the half-moon he kept falling over so was laughing away so it did help him smile. He did say the monkey shouldn’t laugh at the tiger as that wasn’t very nice of him. The illustrations are lovely and clear, they match the story as you are reading through but aren’t too complicated to make them too much. My son only read this book twice. My son liked the poses, both when Svadi was going with the music and the ones detailed at the end to try. The story overall is a nice little story with a moral that children can understand. Beautiful illustrations which are clear and match the story and are intermingled with the words. The book is fine for this age group, clear story which isn’t too complicated. The book itself is lovely quality. It does come with a free audiobook you can access via your phone which makes the price more worthwhile. I would not buy this as it is a book that is likely to be read only a few times in our house, so enjoyed but not returned to time and again. I would recommend as we have several friends who would like the yoga aspect of this book and would enjoy reading to their children. Lovely quality, clear story and nice moral to the story. It reads well, just not a good fit for our boys. Nice and easy to read, I did like the fact there was a free audio book but do feel that they have missed an opportunity to allow for the children to explore this book on there own as it is just a continuous file. I would have liked to have had a beep to indicate a page turn so that non reading children know when to turn and can follow the story on their own. We have come across books like this before the children have loved being able to “read” on their own. Alexander is also learning to read himself but not fluently and he did try at first to read along with the audio file but got lost quite quickly. Maggie Goffin – Alexander 6 Years

We thought the book looked interesting, not the usual type of book we would pick. It is bright and colourful so stands out. Lincoln was interested in reading it as it was something new the colours definitely caught his attention. He seemed to enjoy the book, he definitely enjoyed the last few pages where they tell you how to go the yoga moves. Lincoln was always excited to get to the end so he could do his moves! Lincoln liked doing the yoga I wouldn’t say it calmed him down though. He especially liked doing the half-moon pose definitely his favourite and he found it very funny. The illustrations were really nice, lovely and bright and definitely helped to tell the story. We read it for about 4 days in a row to start as Lincoln wanted to do the yoga moves at the end. We are at least once a week now. The yoga moves were his favourite bit, his favourite yoga move was the half-moon although he did like doing the rest and was a pro in the end. I have to say I liked the yoga best as well, I haven’t done it in a while and it’s made me want to go back to class. All the illustrations were lovely and bright. We enjoyed looking at the pictures. I think the age suitability is just about right, my eldest is 7 and isn’t interested in stories like this anymore. He did have a quick look on his own and thought it was nice though. The book feels and looks like an expensive so it’s really good quality. It is quite expensive. I tend to buy books when they are £5 at the very most or on offer. The price is the biggest no factor. It is a good quality book and lovely but I just wouldn’t be able to justify the price. Especially with children sometimes being rough we do teach them how to treat books but accidents happen. I would recommend at it is a nice book and has other books with alongside this one, if the price was lower or the book was on offer I think it would make it more appealing to friends and family as well. If the book was around £5 then I would recommend as Lincoln found it so fun. The book is lovely, bright and very colourful. All the illustrations are great and the explanations of the yoga moves are spot on so make they easy to do. The QR code is also a nice touch with its audio book, it got me to pronounce the names correctly. The price has made it lose a point, that being the only fault I can find. The book is lovely overall Lincoln loved doing the yoga moves at the end of the book and even joined in as the monkey did his yoga in the story. The illustrations are bright and colourful they are lovely and a great addition to the book. The price in the link is way too much but this is the only problem I can find. The book feels and looks great quality it’s a nice addition to our books and will no doubt continue to be read many times. Vicki Jones – Lincoln, Lyla-Mae & Zach – 5, 18 Months & 7 Years
