‘My Mummy is a Monster’ flip book

‘My Mummy is a Monster, Limited Edition Flipbook’ is the first in the ‘Monstrous Me’ collection. It is a split perspective book, which looks at life from alternate viewpoints.

This book is a labour of love, staying true to the author’s vision for layout and format, and perfectly preserving the original magic.

We start the book looking through our mini heroine’s eyes, as she recounts the ups and downs of family life. Brushing teeth and hair, endless shopping trips, each time highlighting the reasons she believes her mummy to be a monster. (There is even an opportunity to draw your own Mummy Monster!)

At the midpoint, we literally and figuratively turn the story on its head, by closing the book and flipping it. This brings an extra level of interactiveness.

Once flipped, this hilarious double-covered storybook becomes, ‘My Children are Monsters.’ Here, we step into our mummy’s shoes and look at the same scenarios, this time, from mum’s point of view.

The humour is multilayered and fun for all the family, with themes most families will instantly recognise.

It leaves us begging the question, ‘Who is the real monster?’

Lovely bright colours and my 6 and 7 year old loved the way it had a cover on both sides. Really liked it, showing different perspectives. My 7 year old is autistic so this was a great book for him. The front cover was very inviting and they were both quite intrigued by the different titles.  The book kind of showed them that we all have ups and downs. The book then changes to ‘My children are Monsters’ and it showed thinks from my/another perspective. They both loved the idea of two books in one, even my 14 year old (who is also autistic) read it to them and was captivated! The illustrations were lovely and enhanced the story. This book was brilliant as definitely entertaining.  My 6 year old still wants me to read it most nights! This was read every night for the first week and now at least twice a week! They loved the two stories in one, the fact it has two titles and the way the book switches. I liked seeing things from different perspective and it gave me opportunities to discuss “what might happen” etc. The quality of this book is excellent. Definitely great value. I would definitely buy more from the series. I would definitely buy this as we are big book readers and loved this! I would highly recommend this especially those with autistic kids.  I loved the personal note and the way it was gifted, the story writing is very clever and thought provoking but in a child friendly way. Loved it! Zoe Hicks – Dexter 6 and Jaxson 8

The book arrived fast after being allocated. It came in thick brown cardboard box. Once I had opened the box a lovely handwritten letter to myself was there which was a Lovely touch. The book was covered in pink crepe paper with a pretty little sticker. A fabulous bookmark was also included which matched the book. I thought the book was fabulous, I had never seen one like this before. Having a son and a daughter it was a great book to read as a family. The front cover really made them want to read the book.  As soon as they saw the book they wanted to know what it was about, they loved the monsters. Both my children found this book very funny and they could relate to parts which made them laugh and talk about it. Isabelle laughed at the part about the IPAD batteries running out and him wanting to be her best friend when it does. The ‘flip’ part of the book definitely adds to the fun of the book, the children laughed turning the book around and all the writing was upside down. If you have two children that are different genders this is a fabulous book to get them to spend some time together, making light fun out of each other, hearing ‘Mum, she does that’ and little debates. Also hearing ‘My monster is prettier than yours’. Who doesn’t love a healthy debate between siblings over monsters. Illustrations are beautifully done and the colours are fun. My son is dyslexic, so the pictures told the story beautifully. He could talk about what’s happening in the book without me having to read it. This book was the most fun I’ve had with a book for a long time as a parent’s point of view. It’s been read a few times, although my son has loved the book more so than my daughter. I think the bright fun coloured monsters play a part in that.  The children liked the fact the monsters wasn’t them but they were naughty monsters. I loved how my children interacted with each other after and during reading this book. Good quality book. You can feel the quality of the paper and the hard back. Most definitely good value. I would happily buy this after reading reviews on how fun the book is. I would love to collect the whole series and I would be excited to see what was coming next. As I said above, if I read a review or a friend had told me about this book I would buy this book. I wouldn’t be disappointed. I would recommend especially as I have niece and nephew siblings. I would love to see a flip book with two brothers or two sisters.  A fabulous family book, read with a couple of cheeky monsters who are brother and sister. Lovely interactive book. My children now have fun with the ‘Monstrometers’ {mirrors} in the house looking to see if he\she is a monster today. Now if one of my children are playing up a little the other always comments on how he\she are turning into a monster. It’s been a fun book and lasted in my children’s minds.

I really liked how there were 2 books in one. It kept my 4 year old interested.  The front cover was very inviting and my son loves monsters. My son found the ups and downs of family life funny. He also liked when the book flips to ‘My children are Monsters’ and has never seen a book like this before. This did capture his attention as he likes naughty monsters. The illustrations were great and enhanced the story and perfect for my 4 year old. He also enjoyed finding the object on each page also. I have lost count how many times we have read this book in 1 afternoon it was read about 4 times. My son loved finding the object very entertaining. I liked the monster.
