Orchard Toys Egg Surprise Game Reviews

The illustrations on the box are fun and colourful, appealing to the age demographic the game is aimed at. The information on the top of the box is succinct but sums up very well the premise of the game, the intended age groups and number of players as well as telling me this has been teacher tested, which is reassuring for parents that this will be fun for children but also aids developmental attainments. The concept is good in that it offers an engaging, amusing game which encourages children’s counting skills in a fun way. Although it’s particularly well suited to this time of year, both the bunny and eggs motifs would still be attractive to young children year round. The instructions are easy to understand but also detailed enough so that there is no misunderstanding as to how the game should be set up and played. It’s also great that the instructions are printed on the back of the box, rather than a separate leaflet, as it means there’s no issue with losing them. Our 3 year old found it very easy to understand the mechanics of the game, and as soon as she’d popped the cards out of the card boards and we set it up, she was able to play the game with us and with her young friends, explaining to them how to play. There were a lot of squeals as she collected the bunnies and discovered how many eggs were on the reverse of the cards. The carrot spinner was much more fun than just having a plastic pointer, matching the theme of the game and our little one loves shouting “Spin the carrot!” as each player takes their turn. I knew my 3 year old was quite competitive but it seems gentle bunnies and pretty eggs have brought out a side I haven’t seen before – she has been trying to persuade us you can have an extra turn if a bunny card doesn’t have any eggs on the back, and that she can spin again if she “doesn’t want that number this time”. This game definitely helps with number recognition and counting skills. She’s obsessed with numbers and counting at the moment, so everything from steps to peas to buttons get counted aloud, so this is really relevant and useful, helping boost association between number forms and individual items. Recognising the number indicated by the spinner, and then searching the bunny cards for the relevant number of spots improves both observational and cognitive skills. She has played it every day, often several times a day, since receiving it and still finds it as fun and engaging as the first time. It’s a game that can be lots of fun for families to play, or for our child to play with her friends. We have genuinely had such a laugh playing this together. She finds it entertaining enough that she wants to set up another round of the game as soon as one’s finished, and has played with it every day. She enjoys getting the numbers right, counting the eggs – and winning! The compact size of the box makes it easy to pop in a bag, organiser or case, to take on days out, visits to family, or on holiday. We’ve taken it on a train journey and it doesn’t take lots of room to play so it fitted on the table easily. She loves the satisfaction of having the most eggs, and being able to count them herself, but equally enjoys searching for the bunnies and spinning the carrot. I like that it makes learning such fun, reinforcing number recognition and counting methods used in pre-school and nurseries. it’s easy for young children to learn how to play. The cards are made from robust board so can withstand a lot of use, and the illustrations and colours used are visually appealing. The themes are perennial favourites with young children and are unlikely to date so should be a long term favourite. It’s well suited to pre-school and early school age children as it appeals to the natural fascination with numbers and counting of the younger demographic of the intended age group, and supports the educational attainment stages of the higher end of the age group. It’s very good value, offering a good quality product, hours of entertainment and fun, at a really affordable price. I like that this is a price point that won’t exclude families on a budget. I would purchase this, and thanks to the illustrations advertising the other games available in the series, I have orders to purchase some of them. I would recommend this for children in the specified age groups as it’s such a lot of fun, makes learning a joy, and engages families and friends. Lots of laughter and learning, a little bit of cheating, Egg Surprise is easy to pick up and learn to play. It’s great quality at a great value price. It’s not just for Easter! The box is great for keeping all the pieces together without getting lost in between games, and makes it handy for travelling. I was impressed with the quality of the pieces, the endearing and joyful illustrations, and the sheer fun our little one had, whether playing with friends or parents, was delightful. I love these games and this company – it’s colourful, simple and sweet looking just like a kids game should be. Really good – The memory, matching and counting all together. The instructions were easy to follow.  My son did find this game easy to play. My 3 year old can do his numbers but is still learning to count each item rather than rushing through so the spots help slow him down to concentrate. He also enjoyed using the spinner. The spinner is so much better than chasing a dice around the room! This was a competitive game.  They were very excited by it and even the 11 year old got excited trying to pick the card with the most eggs. and he liked that it was easy enough for him to help his brother. This did help improve Nathan’s counting skills.  By having the spots to counts it slowed him down and helped him match it to the bunny. Also helped improve observation skills. We have played it quite a few times in the past two weeks, we have a collection of Orchard toy games and will spend an hour having a game of each. My youngest son has being playing this game lots – being able to involve the older one was lovely too.  Certainly kept Nathan entertained. We love these small games to take with us to Nanny and grandads or on trips away – even out to dinner sometimes. My son liked the surprise of how many eggs he would find! I loved the simple, colourful design and how engaging it was. Age suitability ideal and great to encourage learning. Great value too. I would purchase this game. I love these games for the kids and this is definitely one I would recommend and already have.  We loved this game. Jodie Dyer – Nathan & Olly – 3 & 11 Years

Happy and excited when this arrived. It’s a fun little simple Easter-themed counting game. I was very impressed with it. Instructions clear and easy to understand. Both my children enjoyed this game and found it easy to play. It was exciting to see which card they turned over and whether it was what they needed. They did enjoy having the carrot spinner which was durable and cute. This is a very competitive game and they both wanted to have the most eggs at the end. This was too basic for my little girl but she enjoyed it nonetheless. It was perfect for my little boy (ages above).  This game did help to focus and concentrate my son’s observation skills. We have played it about half a dozen times over the school holidays while getting into the Easter spirit.  My children had a lot of fun playing this game. We have a range of Orchard games we enjoy together.  This game certainly kept my son entertained.  I liked the idea it is so compact as a mini game’ so not as bulky as other Orchard games. Ideal to take on your travels. My son loved spinning the spinner and counting the eggs. I loved seeing the kids having fun. Great quality as always from an Orchard game. It was age suitable for my son and slightly older. I think it was too easy for my daughter who is nearly 6. Absolutely great value. I would purchase as a value Easter/themed, simple learning game. Ticks lots of boxes! I would recommend for the same reasons. A great value Easter/themed, simple learning game. Ticks lots of boxes!
