My first thought was brilliant, this won’t take too much space up in my suitcase – we were going on holiday and wanted to bring the bug viewer along! Nice and compact with a funky design! I think the concept is brilliant – small enough for little hands but still great magnifying! Instructions clear and easy to follow. My daughter found this very easy to use. They all found this interesting to see things close up. They could get up close to bugs without the worry of having to actually handle them or have them crawl on them! They all very much enjoyed this and it prompted lots of research into different bugs and their habitats, what they need to survive etc. Great size and so easy to take out and about. This did keep them entertained. We have used the bug viewer every day since it arrived. They absolutely love it and always ask to get it out. They loved being able to see bugs that they would be too nervous to handle but were inquisitive about. I liked the fact they can use it themselves with little to no adult help. I like how interested it made them in wanting to learn more about nature and how it made them want to look after nature more. This definitely suits this age range due to it being so simple to use and so much fun! However my elder children (12,10 & 7) also enjoyed this and used it just as much! Superb value for money. I would buy this. It is definitely worth it for hours (literally!) Of fun for the children, and myself. I also think it’s a very reasonable price. Definitely recommend. I have already to a friend who also has a child interested in nature. I can just find no faults with this product. Overall, they had a fantastic time with this product it encouraged lots of fun and learning opportunities. Danielle Streeton – Lily 4 Years – Also tested on my 7, 10 & 12 year olds

Bright colours but very small viewer. This is a good idea but to look at bugs, the design let’s anything you look at escape from field of vision so quite frustrating for little ones. Very easy to follow instructions. My child found this very easy to use. I found this bug viewer was not quite close up enough for a 4 year old. She enjoyed seeing flowers etc., but beetles escaped before she could look. This is quite small and lightweight to easy to take out with you on walks and days out. This was entertaining for my daughter but the bugs got away before she could view them through this. She did lose interest in this quite quickly. My daughter mainly used this to view a few garden plants and twigs. She did like how small it was as easy to carry around. I liked how brightly coloured this was and lightweight. The age suitability is ideal. Reasonable value for money. I would not buy this as the magnification was not strong enough to keep my daughters interest. I would recommend as I feel this would be great for school projects. Great to use at school , greater magnification and bigger field of view would have got more interest. Very simple concept but wasn’t obvious what it was unless you had the box in front of you. I imagine I’ll come across it in a couple of years and not know what it is. I liked the concept but don’t think it worked in reality. My child did not find this easy to use as bugs kept escaping – there was no way of containing them with the viewer. My daughter did initially find this interesting but quickly panicked when she realised the bugs could escape right out and she didn’t want to be that close to them when not contained. I would not say my daughter enjoyed using this item. It was a great size for having in her pocket when on a walk. It would keep her entertained for a few minutes at a time. We used this on every walk for 2 weeks before she lost complete interest in this. She would use this to look at anything collected on our walks. My daughter loved the fact it was pink and perfect size for her hands. I thought it seemed durable. I think at 3 years 6 months she is a bit young for this at the moment. I would say 4 Years plus would be more suitable age group. An OK price but a regular magnifying glass does the same thing. I would not buy this for a child this young. I think only suitable for an older child/child with a more specific interest in nature /bugs. I would not recommend as I did not feel it actually did much more than a normal magnifying glass. Genuinely think it needs to have something to contain bugs/creepy crawlies in so they can experiment with the magnifying glass part. She didn’t want to get too close so we could only use it for plants /sticks/flowers and she quickly lost interest. Ciara Polhill – Aoibhin 3 Years 6 Months
