Rainbow Reactions Preschool Science Lab Reviews

I was really excited about the product being that it merges learning and play. Very engaging for children, giving open ended opportunities for experiments and an early taste of more formal science via pipettes, beakers etc. Clear, with a range of instructions and suggestions for different uses/experiments for the set. She had no problems at all holding the pieces. They are chunky and robust for little hands. Highly enjoyed the first time round and then has asked for repeat play with the set since. She was very impressed and wowed by the experiment reactions and results each time and found the play very exciting and interesting. Absolutely sparked interest in science and chemistry, she said talked a lot about doing her experiments and used some great early science vocabulary throughout. Aurora was making predictions and asking me about what was happening throughout. It was clear she was taking a lot from the processes. Easily hand washed and put back into the box without needing excessive cleaning or extra means of storage. Once dismantled, the set doesn’t take up much room at all. She was engaged for a good length of time trying several different experiments and then asking to play with it again on other occasions too. She has played with this several times since it arrived, asking to play with it a couple of times a week. This was played with in the kitchen with myself or my husband. I think she liked that it was creative and open ended. Aurora was happy enough to play with different amounts of water and transfer between the vessels when not being guided through the provided experiments which required adult support. The quality of the plastic pieces which are sturdy and good for little hands, as well as eye catching. For quite a compact set, there are many uses and applications. Ultimately, that it promotes learning and scientific enquiry skills. I think it is accurately age appropriate. Definitely great educational game, it compliments science curriculums whilst also being age appropriate. This set comes with many uses making it good value. Lovely quality, everything slots together nicely, is made of good solid plastic, and has a proper use which promotes science. I would buy this. I think it would be appealing to almost all, of not all children of a 4+ age as it can be played with independently as water/food safe play, and in a more structured way to facilitate more formal learning. I would recommend as true margining of learning and play. I really like any toy or game which promotes learning which this absolutely does. I believe it will be returned to for play for years to come. Great longevity. Myself and my daughter have really enjoyed this and it’s also been something my husband has enjoyed playing with her too. It is eye catching and appealing and can be played with in a simplistic form as well as in more complex scientific play. There are so many opportunities and applications for the toy. I do wish it had come with some of the substances the book lists as experiment ingredients as on initial first play, we had to skip several experiments through not having certain things stocked in the cupboard, although these were cheap and easy to come by at the supermarket. Overall, this is a really lovely educational toy. Emma Peano – Aurora 4 Years

Really interesting, I love learning toys for the children and was curious to how a science based toy would work. Great, you don’t often see Science based toys for younger children. Instructions really easy to follow. The pieces are nice and chunky for small hands. My child did enjoy carrying out the 10 experiments and we loved the flower experiment especially. We will definitely be trying all these experiments again. It really sparked Charlottes interest, there were lots of questions asked. Charlotte was questioning and solving throughout. Once finished this is really easy to clean and store. It held her interest for a while, some experiments more than others. We have completed each experiment once at the moment. This was played with at home, we have a large surface in our house perfect for this. My daughters brother also enjoyed joining in a little. My daughter liked the hands on (and somewhat messy) elements of play. I liked the fact she was learning science skills. I feel like slightly older children may get more from this but it was easy enough for Charlotte to use. This is perfect for education settings. Good value and prices how I would expect. A good strong product. I would consider this as a really different educational gift. We already have recommended. Something really different. We really enjoyed using this toy. This is the first science based learning we have done. I would definitely recommend this to others. Bright and colourful. Educational and easy to use. Paula Smith – Charlotte and Roman – 4 & 2 Years

I liked the box and having had a similar toy in past was excited to try it. The concept is good and opens the child up to a number of fun activities. Instructions clear and concise, easy to follow. My child had no problem using this set. We have not tried all the experiments as they require us buying more items, but the ones we have tried were enjoyed. The flowers were especially enjoyed, they loved the magic of changing the colours. This did spark his interest in science and chemistry. He felt like a “wizard” making magic with it all. My son did have to learn to wait for the outcome of the tests but yes he listened when we discussed how things occurred. This was easy to keep clean and store. This did keep my son entertained. It depended on when I could buy the items to go with the experiments, but when I told h I had them he was happy to play right away. This would be used mostly at the weekends. My 8 year old daughter would also use this with us. He loved feeling like a wizard. I enjoyed the different outcomes. This was age appropriate for my son. This would be ideal for nursery schools as you could do the experiments with a group of children. I feel this is quite overpriced considering you have to buy all the extra items to complete the experiments. Other toys on the market are cheaper with those included. I cannot fault the quality very good. I would not buy this as you cannot compete any experiments without buying extra items which make it a lot more costly. I would not recommend for the same reason. Not full marks due to price and the fact you do not get the items to conduct an experiment straight out the box. You have to purchase a lot to enable to do the experiments. Great concept but items should be included in the kit for the price, or even include and increase price to £25 to save the hassle of having to buy them. Catherine Egleton – Jack 4 Years
