Reel Big Catch Game

Catch a fish and measure it – the biggest catch wins! Reel Big Catch Game is a fun early years maths game to learn measurement, where players use the included fishing rod to ‘catch’ telescopic fish. There are 9 fish in 3 different lengths, but you’ll need to ‘catch’ a fish to find out how long yours is. The included tape measure has Imperial and metric measurements on one side, and non-standard measurements on the other. Suitable for 2–3 players.

Little learners can ‘catch’ big skills with the Reel Big Catch Game.

Players take turns using the rod until all fish have been caught, then measure their fish against the included measuring cards to see who caught the biggest fish.
Introduce the idea of small, medium, and large, and help kids understand the correlation between size and measurement.
The tape measure has Imperial and metric measurements on one side, and non-standard measurements on the other.
Includes a fishing pole, 9 colourful telescopic fish, four measuring cards, paper tape measure, and game guide.

The game was nice and colourful and my son couldn’t wait to open the box and start playing. I thought the game was great. It taught patience as you are trying to hook the fish. It also helps with motor skills as you’ve got to be really careful hooking the fish. Instructions were easy to understand but you didn’t really need them as well as it was pretty self-explanatory. He did get to grips using the rod to catch the fish, but it would take him time and he was determined to keep trying to catch the fish. When he did he was so pleased. He thoroughly enjoyed this game and being able to measure the fish. It did help him relate to sizes. However, he just want to catch the fish though so stopped measuring as he was enjoying catching them too much. He did find this game competitive and fun. He was just as excited to see what everyone else caught as much as what he caught. We all played this game and had fun. This did keep him entertained and he played this game for a good two hours. He has played this game every day and it is now one of his favourite games. This game was mainly played at home with family. I think my son is still a little young for the measurement aspect of this game but for now he just liked to catch the fish. His favourite part of this game is catching the fish. I liked the face the game taught him patience and to stick at something. The age suitability was ideal for catching the fish, but feel understanding measuring and sizes will be more applicable when he is a little older. I think this would be a great game for nurseries and schools. It’d be helpful with their motor skills and learning to not give up. I think the price is slightly too expensive and would probably be more suited around £12. The quality was good and withstood a 3 year old. I would buy this product. I would recommend seeing how much my son and nephew enjoyed the game. This product was excellent. It really got the whole family involved as my nephew was so engaged and wanted to show everyone how he could catch the fish. We had hours of fun. This is a really excellent product for fine motor skills, determination and sharing. I wasn’t sure if my son would stick at it as you needed to have patience to play but he ended up loving it and has not stopped playing. This would be a great educational tool for nurseries and schools. Sian Roberts – Laszlo 3 Years

Lovely, professionally designed box, looks like a fun and interesting game. Looks age appropriate. I think the kids will love it. I like it, at first I expected something slightly different but I loved that the concept was actually a lot more unique than what I had thought at first. I like that there’s the added challenge of counting along the ruler to see how many inches each are, I also love that the kids started measuring them against each other’s to compare if “bigger”, “smaller” or “same size” etc – a definite plus for opening the mathematical language. Instructions easy to follow. I like the idea of the game, it has the added challenge of counting and comparing after the motor skills. The rod is easy to grasp, easy to use, works well. Would’ve preferred two rods to play with/ against someone. Each catch was exciting and then they were excited to measure and compare each fish too. This game is extremely helpful for encouraging the use of mathematical language. My son found this game very exciting and competitive too. He enjoyed playing with siblings and friends and everyone who has played has enjoyed it or called it a “cool game”. It really did keep them entertained. They loved it and played along nicely for quite a while each time! They play this game a lot. This is played in the living room as like us watching and getting excited for them to catch the fish too! Definitely helped improve understanding of size and measurement. He loved that he can catch the fishes and count to see how big. I think I’ll win” is my little one’s response. The concept is different to all the others, I like the added maths challenge after the catching. My four year old plays it mostly with his 3 year old step sister, and 14 year old step sister and it’s kind of an all-rounder! I work in preschool, it’d be a great addition. And it’s an exciting activity to incorporate maths as it’s sometimes, harder to get children to engage for a good amount of time with math activities! It’s a bit above what I expected it to be but again it’s quite a unique concept so I do actually think it’s great value. It’s great quality and durable. I would buy this if I saw it on offer. I would recommend as it is an ideal game for children. I think this game is excellent. Stephanie Laity – Cole 4 Years

Looked really good and attractive game. Educational, teaching measuring without knowing it. Instructions easy to follow. My son found it very easy to catch the fish. Loved the concept as he likes hook the duck at fayres. He loved catching and measuring the fish. Not so much the losing but sometimes played it with just him finding longest fish. This did help him understand the difference between size and measurement. We use s/m/l but i also used 9/6/3cm.He found this game competitive and fun. Loved playing it with his sibling. Very competitive. It did keep him entertained. This game was played quite often and would make a good birthday or Christmas present. This was played with on the breakfast counter. I would say my 8 year old learn more about size and measurement compared to my 4 year old. My son liked just trying to find large ones and hooking it on. I liked the look on his face when he got a long fish it didn’t keep the game going for long time but was easy to pack it away and get it out again quickly. I would say this game is more suitable 4 years plus. This would be an ideal educational game to help them understand centimetres and inches. Personally I feel this game is a bit pricey and feel £10 would be more reasonable. Really good quality and attractive fish. If I saw this on special offer I would buy this. I would recommend as it is a fun and educational game. Really fun, attractive game that kept two siblings, with 4+ years age gap occupied and playing nicely, which is quite rare, as 4year old is normally too young to play without an adult.
