Ruffles and the Red, Red Coat Book Reviews

Product Tested By Alina de Heer – Liliana 2 Years 6 Months

Alina Awarded The Ruffles and the Red, Red Coat Book 5/5

High quality book with a lovely illustration. Liliana saw the front and immediately wanted to read it. Liliana was captivated the entire way through the story. The timing of this book was perfect as Liliana is not a fan of wearing her coat at the moment. I think she could really put herself in Ruffles shoes. Liliana seemed to really enjoy the story. She liked that it talked about Ruffles feelings (being sad and cross) and also what Ruffles loves! The illustrations are beautiful and really bring the story to life. I particularly like that some pages have small illustrations and some take over the entire page. Liliana has read the Ruffles book loads and still picks it out to read now. I think Liliana liked the pages with the 9 illustrations on and that each drawing corresponded with what Ruffles liked to do. She liked that it was repeated in the book. I like that it tells morals in a light hearted way (wear a coat when it rains, it’s fun to play with friends). I think the age suitability is ideal. Liliana was captivated the whole way through and she could relate to Ruffles not wanting to wear a coat. Great value as I would actually expect to pay a slightly higher price. High quality book. I think the story and illustrations are wonderful and the book looks and feels high quality and I would buy this book. I would recommend as I think anyone with a child would enjoy this book. We loved the story and the illustrations and Liliana’s face lights up at the end when the book explains that Ruffles loves Ruby most of all. It’s been a pleasure reading about Ruffles experiences and seeing Liliana enjoy reading it. She continues to say she wants to read Ruffles so I think it has been a hit. When this arrived I thought it was very bright and captivating cover. Iona likes dogs so she wanted to open it straight away. This did captivate my daughters attention and Iona kept looking for Ruby on the pages she wasn’t there so she continued to the end. My daughter did enjoy reading about Ruffles experiences as she likes jumping in muddle puddles so she could relate to the story. My daughter really enjoyed the story. The illustrations suit the storyline well but I would say it’s a little too basic and not that detailed for me. We read this about 5 times in a row and then she has not asked to read it again. My daughter enjoyed searching for Ruby and looking at them jumping in puddles. I liked that it has a happy ending and shows friendship in a nice way. I think the age suitability is probably right. It is a fairly basic storyline but I can imagine when Iona starts to read, she would feel confident because it’s not so long etc. I’d probably like to pay £4.99 – I found the storyline a little dull. Book is great. Personally I would not buy this book as did not keep my daughters attention. Iona enjoyed reading this book because she could relate to the puddle jumping, searching for the dogs and wearing jumpers. It’s a bright cover and Iona wanted to instantly read it. The storyline is very easy to follow but meant Iona hasn’t wanted to pick it up again since receiving the book. Marion Frazer – Iona 27 Months

The book seemed good quality not thin and flimsy. My daughter loved the picture of the dog on the front and was so exited to see what happened. She happily sat for the story but didn’t ask to read it again. I think the experiences Ruffles went through were relatable to my daughter. She did enjoy the story but there wasn’t much discussion about the story. The illustrations were our favourite things about the book they definitely brought it to life and I feel we talked more about the pictures than what was happening in the story. My daughter only read when I encouraged her to read it and was never her choice from the book shelf. My daughter loved the illustrations of Ruffles. I loved the illustrations as there was lots that could be discussed as well as the story. I think this book is suitable for a 2 year old but I do feel and older childe 4/5 would not be captivated by the story as would be too young for them. This book is a reasonable price. I think the paper and the cover were both thick and not flimsy. I would not buy as this was not captivating for my daughter. I would not recommend for the same reason. The pictures were good but the story could have been better. The book was good quality with some lovely illustrations but the story wasn’t that great to be honest if I flicked through it in a shop with so many books on the market I would choose one with a better story.
