Spike The Fine Motor Hedgehog® Tissue Pal™ Reviews

Product Teste By Jenna Derbyshire – Lily 23 Months

The product was well packaged and didn’t require any assembly. It also seems well made ready for life with a toddler. My daughter already loved pulling wipes out of a packet, so this is a much less wasteful way to do this. Instructions were simple as there isn’t much need for any excessive explanations. With a small amount of practice she understood what to do, but wasn’t too easy (didn’t get bored too quickly). She has a couple of other sensory type toys but this is one of her favourite and keeps her attention. She already enjoyed doing this with other items (wipes) so likes that she has her own thing that she can do this with. And the small holes made it a bit of a challenge. Did not really use to learn colours, but she does recognise a couple. She does love playing with the hedgehog and likes to include it in imaginative play with other toys. Definitely loved the fact tissues can be washed. They have been used by her to ‘clean’ her kitchen. So was a handy feature. Lily loves tidying up so she enjoys stuffing them all back in to end play time. This did keep her entertained both as it was intended to be used and as a hedgehog in imaginative play. This was played with quite often, it is kept with her every day toys so is pulled out most days. This toy has been played with everywhere and even on days out. My daughter loved pulling out all the tissues and stuffing them all back in. I liked that is was small well-made and can be easily cleaned if needed. As a learning toy she is probably at the top end of age range, but as a sensory/imaginative play toy it is perfect. It is a good educational toy and would be ideal to have in nursery schools. It is simple, well made and easy to clean. For less than £10 it’s great as it should last well in a home or nursery setting. Seems well made and easy to clean. I would buy this. Lily loved pulling all the wipes out of packs and stuffing them back in, so this was a great replacement for that. I would recommend as this is a good quality item. Worked well for us and Lily loved it. Jenna Derbyshire – Lily 23 Months

The toy was made of a quality, study plastic with nice, bright colours. It’s quite a compact toy (in terms of actual size and packaging size), which is always appreciated. I thought the concept was a good one as a way of developing a child’s fine motor and coordination skills. It’s pretty fiddly to re-insert the tissues, so can definitely see how it would help with handling skills. The hedgehog has an appealing face which would be attractive to children. It’s fairly obvious how this toy is used as there is a clear picture on the packaging to replicate. My child found it easy to pull out the tissues, but needed a bit of help re-inserting the tissues. She enjoyed pulling out the tissues, but found the whole process of re-inserting them a little frustrating. My child loved the feel of the tissues and rubbed them on her face. She enjoyed pulling them out, but less so stuffing them back in as she needed a bit of help to do it. My child is very independent so is always reluctant to get help from an adult! This did help her with her colours. The colours of the tissues are bright and appealing, so it was good to be able to remove a tissue of a particular colour to help reinforce her colour knowledge. I would not say this helped with creativity and imagination as there are limited options of what you can do with this toy. It is great the tissues can be washed as all my child’s toys tend to get a bit mucky through general play. I really liked the fact that the toy is quite self-contained so doesn’t require lots of little bits to be stored. It’s also very small and compact. She enjoyed playing with the toy for around 15-20 minutes, then got bored of it thereafter. Played with it around 3-4 times before it was consigned to the bottom of the toy box. This was played with at home, during general play in their play room. My daughter really enjoyed pulling out the tissues and feeling their texture. I liked how small and compact it was for storage and toy clear-up. My child was almost 2 when testing this so I feel this toy was a little too basic to keep her entertained for long. I feel it would be more appropriate marketed as suitable for a child between 12-18 months. I think this would be an ideal toy for nurseries as it teaches multiple skills in terms of sensory, motor and colours. For £8.95, I think this is a great price even if your child only plays with it a handful of times. The quality of the hedgehog and tissues was great, and sturdy enough to be manhandled by a baby or toddler. I would consider buying it, but perhaps for a younger child who’s just started playing with toys. For the price I would recommend as it’s an appealing and educational toy foe the right age group. I think the principle of the toy is a good one, but there are limited options in terms of how many ways you can play with it. I also feel that it should be marketed for a slightly younger age group, and perhaps add a different functionality to it. My child initially enjoyed playing with toy, but lost some interest as there wasn’t another way to play with it. For a relatively inexpensive toy, I feel it would add most value in an educational setting to reinforce motor and colour skills. Catherine Owens – Isabella 2 Years

I thought it looked interesting, bright and colourful and caught William’s interest. My son loves to pull things out of boxes, drawers, so this did appeal to him. Great you could wash the tissues supplied with this so can use over and over again. This toy is pretty self-explanatory and my son found it easy to use. My son loved pulling out the tissues and putting them back in (along with other tissues from around the house too!). I would not say this had a sensory aspect to it, but he would make up stories about the hedgehog and create his own hedgehog world using some of his other toys. My son is learning about his colours now, so this really helped him to recognise his colours. Really liked this aspect of the toy as we would create a colour game and ask him to put specific colours back in the hedgehog. He would create his hedgehog world and bring in other toys and natter away to them all in his own unique way. Once finished with this my son can put all the tissues back in his hedgehog and then everything is tidy. I like this. This did keep his attention and he enjoyed playing with this. This was played with every week. This was kept in playroom at home and a few times took it with us to granny and grandad’s. My son enjoyed pulling out he tissues and stuffing them back in. I liked the fact the toy helped him with his colours and also he crated his own hedgehog world. I would say 18 Months plus is ideal for this toy. I do feel this would be a great little toy to have in a Nursery as does help with colours and motor skills. This is a good quality toy and definitely good value for money. I would buy this as a gift and would also recommend. My son had lots of fun with his hedgehog tissue pal and I have no doubt it will continue to keep him happy and entertained for a while yet.
