When we first opened the box to reveal the STEM explorers we were quite excited as the design makes you want to open and get building straight away. I think the concept is great it helps with concentration and having the ability to follow instructions and then the happiness at building different constructions and seeing the end results. The instructions are ok although some of them are a little tricky to follow especially for a slightly younger child I would say the space rover, swinging gate and crane being the most difficult for my daughter. Although she persevered and carried on. We found the pieces in this set really easy to hold and connect as they are slight more cubed then other similar sets and a bit more chunky so little hands can hold and build with them. My daughter tried all of the 9 designs that came on the challenge cards and although she found the crane, swinging gate and the space rover a little tricky with a bit of perseverance and help she was able to complete all the challenges which made her happy and proud of what she has achieved. Lucy also made some designs herself. Lucy managed to build all 9 of the challenge cards as well as making some of her own which she really enjoyed thinking up and putting together as it really does challenge there brain and thinking. Lucy has not experienced many toys that have had mechanical elements to add to the toys to make things work and move and I must say she has thoroughly enjoyed this part of the toy, it almost makes it more exciting to see if everything is in place properly. Lucy really enjoys a challenge and thoroughly enjoyed making her way through the different challenges. Lucy got a little frustrated when she could not work out some of the more complicated instructions but with help and guidance and a lot of patience she was finally able to complete all challenges over time, We found she really enjoyed some time playing with them after school as it is quite a calm activity. I believe this set does help with my child’s thinking and problem solving as you need to have elements in the right place to get the right outcome. It takes a lot of patience and concentration while creating your machines but slowly seeing them come together and the end result of the machine working is such a big achievement and makes the hard work and concentration worthwhile. I think this set is great for children it is a calming activity that makes you brain have to work hard to make the machines correctly so they work to the desired effect. it promotes social skills as you can work together and problem solve together and provides a great activity that keeps them engaged and focused all while thinking and concentrating. I think this activity keeps the children entertained due to the fact that they are so engrossed in the building and wanting it to work at the end that they keep on going and also seeing what types of machines they can make by themselves. Lucy tried to make a robot and also a shark that can move which shows it sparks curiosity and imagination. While completing the challenges Lucy played with this set on a daily basis for periods of time after school, she found it quite calming to sit down and build things, since completing them all and creating some of her own it hasn’t been used as much but still comes out and is played with frequently, I think if she had more challenge cards she would carry on daily as she loves a challenge and it gives her the motivations to complete them. Lucy played at home after school she had help from myself and her daddy when she needed it and also had a playdate with a friend over who was also very intrigued and helped to make some of the machines which was lovely to see as they both worked together and had ideas and thoughts on what bits go where and how to get to the finish. Lucy played this with family and friends which was really fun for Lucy as she loves being social and this helps promote that as you can all work together, Lucy also let her little brother have a turn which he enjoyed fixing together although is far too little to understand the concept of the machines so used them more as a stacking block. Lucy loves a challenge and this definitely gave her a challenge she absolutely loved seeing the machines working and knowing that her building has made that happen it is such a rewarding thing seeing your child achieve what they set out to do. I really liked the fact it make Lucy think and have to engage her brain power to assemble everything correctly, it made her problem solve and concentrate and it was lovely seeing how much she got from making her creations. The age group 5+ is definitely the right age for this set although a couple of the designs are a little tricky so definitely need help as they won’t be able to complete them by themself which can leave them frustrated. As a parent who also works in Education I would say this would be great for children it helps promote social skills, critical thinking, problem solving and provide a stimulating activity that promotes concentration and also provides a rewarding ending when completing the challenges. I agree this is good value for money although it would be really nice to be able to get further challenge cards as I feel there are many more machines to build and if you could get more challenges it provides even more longevity with this set, I found my daughter doesn’t play it as regular now she doesn’t have the challenges to complete so would be great to even have an online format to download more options. The pieces in this set are very robust and are a very solid plastic for the most part, there are also the bands that are a fundamental part of the set but they again feel very robust and you can stretch them without fear that they are going to snap. I would definitely buy this product and I am already looking at getting this for the children in my current setting as I feel it would make a great addition into the classroom. I would highly recommend this product to friends and family I think it is a great product for a child to use on their own but also as a great family activity working together to make some amazing creations. I think this product is a great addition to my little girls toy selection and has so many benefits although I would love to be able to gain access to more challenge cards as I feel she would use this more if she has them. I feel that with the machine makers you get a whole package a child who takes on the challenges and has to think and concentrate, but at the same time find it really fun and exciting to see what they have created. The pieces are easy to connect together and are a very robust material which is also really easy to clean as well when needed. You get a really good amount of pieces and they come in a lovely strong cardboard box that you can keep everything stored in. There are different challenge cards that they can follow and although some are a little more tricky then others, with help and encouragement they are achievable and then you can see the magic of what they have created. This has helped my daughter to realise how some mechanics work and the reason we have to implement them to machines in order for movement. As a parent who also works in the early years sector this would be a great set to add into classrooms and would have so many benefits for the children and their areas of learning. Exciting looking box, interested to open it. Really good – we enjoy building and construction toys and this was new to us. Easy to follow instructions and nice to have individual ones – pictures helped Archie build. My son found the pieces easy to hold and use. He did not complete the 9 machines suggested as he needed help making them and got bored -found it more fun to make their own. He made 4 of the suggested machines but then decided to create his own. This did help his learn the basics behind designing all kinds of mechanical equipment. My children did get bored with the activity cards and challenges. I think this did improve critical thinking and problem solving skills. This is good for the classroom and a STEM club as really nice to use, interesting and fun. This did entertain Archie. Different and interesting, was slightly disappointed by the things in the instructions but enjoyed making up his own. My son played with this about 6 times. This was always played with in the living room. He played this with his little sister and they really enjoyed the things they made and twisting the cogs. Archie really liked the cogs. I thought it was really lovely to have something educational but a toy. Age suitability ideal. Good learning and interesting to children. With cost of living this felt reasonable. Good quality and has lasted well. I might get more to expand the options. I would recommend as really different and would be an ideal gift. David East – Archie 6 Years

This looked very good and interesting when arrived. Easy to assemble, they are nicely coloured and made a good impression on my son. It is an interesting construction for my son. Instructions easy enough to follow. My son found the pieces easy enough to hold and use. Ideal for smaller hands. My son the 9 suggested machines. We put them all together. Some were more difficult for him, but together we completed them. My son managed to build 3 on his own and the rest we built together. The toy and the cards helped him so much to learn and understand principles behind designing and mechanical equipment. He loved using the activity cards and completing the challenges. Most definitely helped his improve critical thinking and solving problems. I think this would be ideal to have in schools as different things can be put together and was really interesting for my son. He kept telling me to look at what he put together, how it all works. This most definitely kept him entertained. This was played with regularly. Every time when he is free he comes to play with it. He adds toys and then lifts them up and down. Always played with this at home in his room. He has played this with his friend and it was fun and interesting for them both. My son really enjoyed building the crane. I just loved how this helped him in so many areas and enjoyed watching him make things and learn along the way. I would say the age suitability is good, but every child is different so for some it might be a bit too difficult. Totally agree this would be ideal toy to have in schools as they can be creative and learn while putting things together. This is good value for what it delivers. Quality is great. I would buy this as feel it would be a lovely gift. The parts are made of solid plastic, nicely coloured and interesting for children. As this was such a hit with my son I would definitely recommend to others. A really great toy that helped my son learn so much and inspired his creativity. Terezia Novanska – Filip 5 Years
