The Case of the Disgusting School Dinners Book

Being at school is boring. It’s really boring when you already know what you’re going to be. It’s really, really boring when you’re going to be something cool like a Private Investigator. Until then, Mina’s going to practise for her future. By keeping notes on all her classmates, spying on suspicious teachers, noticing every little-

Wait … Aren’t school dinners a bit strange? Chicken nuggets? Again? On Pizza? Covered in chocolate? Nobody wants to live on lettuce and broccoli, but children are losing teeth over this! This needs investigating. This looks like a case for Mina Mistry.

Looked funny and interesting. Fun and engaging read. Ella – I thought it was going to be about someone that is trying to figure out why dinners are so disgusting. I liked the look of the cover. Ella really enjoyed reading this and thought it was fun. Ella did enjoy the story and thought it was strange how the school dinners were so unhealthy when they had just had an assembly on healthy eating! Fun basic illustrations that break up the text and are age appropriate. Thought the illustrations helped with the story a bit . Ella learnt not to eat unhealthy food. Once so far in just a couple of days as she couldn’t put it down, she will probably re-read it after a few weeks though. Enjoyable read and just the right size wording and words to a page to keep engaged, pictures are a nice touch too. Enjoyable book but I think £5.99 or under would be better value as it was read in a couple of days. I enjoyed how Mina investigated the dinners and how she described them. Ella enjoyed the story and the words were the right size for her to read on her own. We are going to buy the next book when it is released in February. I would recommend this book and we have passed it to her friend to read then Ella will probably read it again in the future. Great story line and engaging read, left Ella wanting to read more of the same style books. I would recommend this to her school or a librarian as my daughter really enjoyed this book. Yes we would buy the next book in the series and Ella is looking forward to getting this. Great book with good illustrations and great story line. Gillian Trickett – Ella 8 Years

The book  looked really good and I couldn’t wait to read it. This was a really good book and I enjoyed reading it. The design was really exciting and made me want to start reading it straight away. I thought it would be about an investigation. I really enjoyed reading it and didn’t want to put it down. I really enjoyed the story because it made me think about school dinners at my school. The pictures were good with a lot of detail. The illustrations are very realistic so made the story come to life. I learnt that it is good to eat healthy food.  I read it every day and finished it within a week. Very good quality book. Very good value as good story. I really liked the investigation because it took a lot of work and it’s like a mystery. I also liked that it was about a girl and it reminded me of me. I am hoping my mum will buy me more books from this Author. I have already recommended to my cousin. Top marks because it is a really good story and I finished it really quickly. I would recommend to my friends because they will enjoy it like me. I have already registered for the case of the Disappearing Pets so I will be notified when this comes out and we can buy this. This was a really good book with lots of very good pictures. I didn’t want to put the book down and finished it within a week of reading it. I can’t wait for the next book to be put on sale. My daughter and I were excited to read the book, the images looked fun and I really like the yellow edged pages I thought it made the book stand out from others. My daughter loved the investigative element of the book, she found it an exciting book to read and she liked that some of the words were in bold which made it easier for her to read. We liked the front cover and the cartoon style pictures were fun. We were very unsure what the book would be about apart from an investigation style book. My daughter loved the book, we read it together each night. She did like the story it kept her engaged and she was wanting to read on to find out what would happen next. The illustrations were age appropriate they were clear and fun. The illustrations definitely helped with imagination and made the story more real. My daughter learnt the more observant you are the more you can learn, she also learnt it’s ok to have friends with different interests you can still be great friends. We read the book together each night. The pages are nice and thick, the whole book is not flimsy and holds its shape when being read. I think the book is good value for money it’s a fairly big book. I liked how it kept my daughter interested and engage, with a fun story line. I would buy this book or a similar book by the same author, it was great for a 10 year old and it was a good book for us to spend time together reading. I would recommend this book, I think it would be good for those children that are not confident readers as the size of the writing is easy to follow. This book was a great book for a 10 year old.  I think it would be good for a school as it relates in the story line. I will definitely be looking out for the next in the series the Disappearing Pets. My daughter and I really enjoyed this book together, it was engaging and fun. The illustrations brought the story to life, the layout of the book is good as the wording is easy to read and my daughter liked that some words were in bold which made it easier to read and follow. Sarah Palfreeman – Keira 10 years
