The Wonderful World of Water From Dams to Deserts With illustrations by Wendy Panders
Dip into any page of this fun, fact-filled book and discover the endless ways that water impacts and sustains life on earth.
Water is our planet’s most important resource, yet it’s easy to overlook its significance in our daily life. This kaleidoscopic journey across the planet offers fascinating insights into how water is connected to the air we breathe, the food we eat, and how our own actions can upset the delicate balance of its cycle. Readers will learn about how water journeys from ocean to sky to mountains, rivers, soil and back again; how water purification works; the flora and fauna of the rainforest; cloud formations and the weather they predict; natural phenomena such as the tiger bush; why rivers flood; what causes a tsunami.

Presented in lively and engaging double-page spreads, each topic is explored with quirky illustrations, trivia, and sidebars that encourage further exploration and experimentation. Best of all, it makes young readers aware just how deeply entwined their futures are with the health of our planet’s water.

The Wonderful World of Water Reviews

Product Tested By Charmaine Mayer – Rohan 9 Years

Charmaine Awarded The Wonderful World of Water Book 5/5

Rohan thought that the book would be about life on earth and its relation to water. Bold 2 colours are inviting of meandering river. Possibly too many little pictures around book. Not necessary to show everything on the front cover. Rohan really enjoyed reading the book. The information in this book connected parts of the curriculum he had learnt before in separated chunks about saving water (topic) water being one of the main things needed for life (science) and our actions (social sciences). It was a book perfect for making these connections. The water journey section will help Rohan learn the scientific vocabulary- e.g. evaporation and solidify these names and look at the complete water cycle on one page. The infographics, make this information a lot easier to digest. The section on water purification and cloud formations etc. was all new information for Rohan. The infographic on this page that filters down is beautiful and captured Rohan. He also enjoyed finding out about natural phenomena, why rivers flood and what causes a tsunami. The illustrations, trivia, and sidebars are the key to this book. The illustrations and infographics aid understanding with Tit bits of great information aimed at his level and great interesting new and different questions that are answered. This book is informative and educational. Relevant to KS2 curriculum and the world today. This was read every evening before bed. It also a great book to dip in and out of when learning about certain topics st school. My son liked the fun questions and answers – and how this information was dotted around the illustrations. The humour in the book which can be lacking in nonfiction books. I liked the double spread pages, colours and up to date information that is relevant to today’s generation. Stunning hardback and thought out pages and illustrations. Very high quality. This book is perfect for my age child. Some information he knew, but could build upon, and other information was completely new but relevant to future learning. This is well written and educational. I have a younger child who enjoyed the illustrations, with adult explanation. Great value as high quality hardback book. I would buy this book. I would also recommend for all the reasons above. Rohan thoroughly enjoyed this book. As a space fan, he probably would have wanted more info on water uses of the future/space etc – a world without water – however this may not be in keeping with the book. Lovely, bright, colourful and looked to be packed full of facts. My son liked the front cover and eager to see what was inside the book. They enjoyed looking at all the facts and learning about water. My child did find it interesting, he particularly liked understanding how we can upset the balance with our own poor choices. They found information on water journey, rivers, soil and water lifecycle interesting and it spurred conversations between us. They found the water purification section very interesting. The section on natural phenomena, why rivers flood and what causes a tsunami they found very interesting and even I learnt something here! I agree, the illustrations were lovely but the Americanised English was a little difficult for my son at times. My son did find this book informative and educational. This has been read a few times then he took it to school to share with his class mates. He liked the small bits of text and the illustrations. I liked the fact it was very informative but with lots of lovely pictures. This book is excellent quality. The illustrations are also excellent. This was the ideal age group for my son. This is well written and educational, just struggled with the Americanised English. Certainly good value. I would buy this as a lovely book would consider it as a gift. I would recommend as a really lovely book. Lovely book to share with my children prompted some lovely conversations and will definitely recommend! Kelly Bancroft – Alfie 9 Years

This was bright and colourful and both my children wanted to look inside to find out what this book had to offer. Both my children enjoyed reading this book as full of facts and information that they found interesting. They were learning all the time and the section on how water is connected to the air, foot and how our actions can upset the delicate balance created many debates in our household. The section on the water journey from ocean to sky, mountains and rivers was highly informative and very interesting. They also enjoyed the section on water purification, rainforest and cloud and weather. All helped them understand more about the world about them. This book helps so much educating them on so many different aspects such as why rivers flood and what caused a tsunami. Both my children loved the fact this book had amazing illustrations and loved the trivia, and sidebars as it helped them understand the whole concept more. This book in fun and very educational not just for our children, but for us too as we learnt a few facts we did not know prior to having this book. This has been read on a regular weekly basis. This is one of those books that you will keep going back to over time to check various aspects about our world and water. They both loved the trivia and the lovely illustrations. I just enjoyed learning more myself reading this book with my children and the illustrations are fantastic. The quality of this book is excellent. Could not fault the illustrations ideal for this book. My children are 9 & 11 Years and both enjoyed this book.
