Thrupenny Bits Breast Feeding & Nursing Pillow

The Ultimate range breastfeeding pillows are the biggest so potentially can be used longer for breastfeeding and convert to a better toddler bag because of the size and the fact that they have inner pockets. They measure 65 cms across and 32 cms down. If your baby is a big beautiful bouncing baby (i.e. large!) you’re better off going for this size cushion. There is now a choice of filler for your Ultimate cushion, we know some of you are buying these specifically for the firm inner crescent shaped bean bag filled with polystyrene fire retardant beads which is why, for now I’m still offering these. We are now however very pleased to be able to also offer an alternative crescent cushion to fit inside your outer bag made from a high grade Hollow fibre polypropylene which is fire retardant and hypoallergenic. This filling is still just as firm and will retain it’s shape unlike the polystyrene beads which flatten over time. It is a little heavier but still just as portable as the bean bags and costs the same.I developed this particular range to be luxurious AND functional using indulgent and high end fabrics, which is why I call these breastfeeding pillows my Ultimate range. All outer bags are individually hand-made and limited edition, so designs may be updated regularly to keep up with current trends. The new Insert lining made from fire retardant polypropylene – test certificate BS5852. Hypoallergenic Polyester filling – test certificate BS5852

Cushions range from £30.00 – £70 Ranging in size from large to small for travel purposes.

The pillow was well made and the material was of good quality which will hopefully last through the duration of your breastfeeding journey. The concept was good and the designer has given consideration to future use as a handbag. I didn’t use the ties as I prefer my pillow to be at an angle to the side as opposed to front on. This means my daughter head and shoulders are supported but her legs can dangle free. As the instructions recommend care is needed when removing the cover for washing and putting it back on afterwards. This isn’t a criticism as all products that are similar to this need the same care to ensure that stitching is not pulled apart. This pillow did help to reduce the strain in my arms; it was comfortable to use and if I didn’t have it I would be in pain which is why I use a pillow at home even though my child is older. It makes the experience much more enjoyable! Thef eeding pillow was excellent for positioning my baby. As my child is older latching isn’t an issue (unless teething) but the firmness of the pillow certainly helped keep her in position. If I was using this with a younger baby then I can imagine it would be good at helpful latch on as the pillow doesn’t move or slide about. The one I choose was quite big which was what I wanted due to the size of my toddler. I would take it on holiday to make feeding indoors easier but I wouldn’t take it out with me. I would consider purchasing a smaller version though as I do still prefer the support of a pillow due to how I need to position my daughter and the size of my breasts. I don’t have to switch breasts when feeding; this wasn’t really something that was an issue for us. My daughter has only ever really feed at one breast during a feed. If I need to move her it would have been simple to do so. I really enjoyed using this pillow; it was nice to have a product that was firm and didn’t sag! Personally I wouldn’t use it as a bag although the split strap would be useful for when baby wearing. I will continueto use it; I have no plans to wean my child yet so hopefully it will see us through to the end of our breastfeeding journey as well as any other children we may have.  I would recommend it. I really enjoyed this product. It would be nice if the patterns could be extended as none of them were really my taste; hence my reluctance to use it as a bag too. Tania Watkins – Cerys 18 Months

This pillow is beautifully made and a high quality product. It is a great concept, it is portable unlike most other feeding cushions and because it turns into a bag after you finish nursing means it can be used for a long time after. I haven’t had to wash it yet but there were clear instructions given when I received the pillow. It can be machine washed. It really does help to reduce the strain on your arms, back and neck; it gives a much more comfy nursing experience as you do not have to lean forward to feed your baby. It also leaves one, or both your arms free. I still have to help my baby latch on but can nurse comfortably using one arm to support her too. I would take it on holiday or to someone’s house, I don’t think I would take it out with me to a coffee shop to aid my nursing. More because I’m usually trying to be discreet! It is very easy to reposition my baby when switching breasts; I just turn her around the other way. I do like using this pillow; it actually fits around your body comfortably unlike other nursing pillows so it was easy to use. It is really pretty to look at too. I haven’t used it as a bag yet, but will definitely be doing so when I finish breastfeeding as it is so lovely. I recently took it with me when I went to stay with relatives as it doesn’t take up much room and is very portable. I will continue to use it for nursing, it’s also very comfy as a cushion when the baby is in bed and I will be using it as a bag when I finish breastfeeding. I had a C-section and would have been ideal if I had had it from the birth of my daughter to help me hold her comfortably. It would make a really nice gift for a new mum. I have had a very positive experience with the pillow; it is the best one I have tried. It is easy to use, comfortable and I love that it turns into a bag when you no longer need it for nursing. This is a very well made and excellent quality pillow. The concept is excellent; it’s a brilliant nursing pillow and shaped just right and holds its firmness. It is very easy to launder; it washes really well. This pillow has really helped me; it’s freed my hands to feed both my new-born and toddler. It has helped me with breastfeeding and latching onto my baby, especially my left hand side. I found it really easy switching breasts too when feeding. It is very portable; I would take it to my parents or away on holiday but not out daily.  I really enjoy using this pillow; it’s made breastfeeding more relaxing thus enjoyable. I will definitely continue to use it.  I highly recommend it.  I love this pillow, it’s a good quality beautifully designed product. Wai-Ha Sum – Luca 13 Weeks
