Mortimer is planning a picnic with his best friend Oggy. It’s all ready when a note arrives – poor Oggy has a cold and can’t come after all. Kind-hearted Mortimer decides he’ll look after his friend and take the picnic to him. But a little rabbit hurrying through the woods with a basket of sausages and cake soon attracts the attention of some fierce, hungry creatures and before long Mortimer has a crocodile, a wolf and a troll snapping at his heels, only to be snatched up by something bigger and fiercer still…Mortimer’s Picnic is an uplifting story celebrating friendship, with evocative illustrations by Nick Ward, a top children’s illustrator.

Lovely looking book, very colourful and eye-catching, we were both
excited to read it. Great quality book, nice sturdy cover and glossy pages. Orla
loved the look of the book and the bold illustrations, she really loves animals
and couldn’t wait to read the book and look at the pictures. The illustrations
are beautiful, every page is very detailed and the characters are wonderfully
depicted. There was plenty on every page
to keep Orla interested and she really enjoyed the fun illustrations, even laughing
at the moving trees in the forest. Orla really enjoyed us reading the book
together on many occasions and would often ask to read it before bed. The story
is uplifting with fun characters and a nice twist at the end. When I asked her
who was her favourite character she said all of them. The length of the book
and flow of the story was perfect for keeping Orla interested, she asked plenty
of questions throughout. Great book, with lots of fun characters and heart-warming
story. The price of the book is as expected. I would happily buy this book to
give as a gift to friends. A wonderful fun story of friendship with plenty of
captivating characters and illustrations to keep young children interested. Katherine

A good quality book with a brightly illustrated cover that makes you
curious about the story. It’s not been battered too much by the boys which is a
good sign! Both boys wanted to read the book to find out about the sausages! The
pictures really illustrated the story and Joshua was able to use them to
predict how the story would go. Daniel enjoyed having the story read to him and
Joshua read it all himself, which would not have happened had he not liked it. Joshua
liked it. He thought it was scary in places, but in a good way! Both boys
answered questions about the book and talked about the storyline. The changing fonts
give clues to the volume they should read at! Both my boys enjoyed the book and
they definitely would have let me know if they hadn’t liked it! £6.99 is a bit
steep but maybe that’s because I never pay rrp for a book. I would probably
have bought the book if it was a few pounds cheaper and would definitely have
borrowed it from a library. I would recommend. My 3 year old enjoyed having the
book read to him and my 5 year old loved reading it. It offered a good
opportunity to talk about friendships, something that Joshua is learning to
deal with during his first year at school. Rachel Keys – Joshua & Daniel – 5 & 3 Years

Enticing cover which brought on a sense of adventure. Nice graphics. Very
good quality, although paper quality could have been better/glossier. They were
very excited to see what the story was about as they saw the crocodile chasing
the rabbit. Great illustrations, a little scary for younger readers possibly,
but otherwise very nicely laid out on the pages next to the relevant part of
the story. My children cannot yet read, but they did follow the story well and
get into the rhythmic nature of it. They enjoyed waiting for what was going to
happen next, and felt sad for the rabbit as he was having a bad day. They
enjoyed the repetitive and rhythmic nature of it, and it all tied in well at
the end. I believe this book is stimulating.
They talked about it afterwards, and it expanded their vocabulary of
fictional characters like trolls. Great book, nice warming story at the end,
and a nice adventure leading up to the end. This is fairly priced and value for
money. I would consider purchasing this
book as it has a catchy cover, and good storyline. Short enough to keep
children interested. I would recommend it as a good book for young boys. A fun
adventurous read with lovely illustrations and catchy phrases! Sharanjit Sagoo – Rajpaul & Mani 4 & 3 Years
