It worked very well for pain relief in the initial stages of
pregnancy and I managed to use the Tens up until I was 6cm dilated, with no
other pain relief. Only then did I remove it, due to having a water birth. The
booster button is fantastic and I didn’t need to have it on the highest
setting. The packaging was very good. The women’s guide to drug free pain
relief was very informative and I loved the fact that there was also
information regarding trigger pointing to aid pain relief. I frequently use
Tens for use on clients, but if I hadn’t used one before I thought the
instructions were clear and concise and easy to follow. Tens provides a good
distraction from the pain! The built in contraction timer was fantastic as you
could time them yourself and also keep an eye on previous contraction times
which was essential for me as things progressed very quickly! I found this more
useful during first stage of labour. I needed to use the booster button, but
did not have it on its maximum settings, so much more scope to alleviate
increased pain. I found the adhesive pads very easy to use too with no problems.
The wrist strap and clip was a great feature to ensure you were able to
maintain mobile. The quality of this machine is excellent. It is slightly more
expensive than some of the other Tens on the market, but I think with the added
useful features, this is well worth it. I would buy this one and recommend it
to friends. This is definitely a must have product. A fantastic must have
purchase for any women in labour! Louise Winterton

It looked easy to use, but also like it uses new technology.
It is very similar to the old Elle TENs packaging and I’m not sure how I would
be able to tell the difference between them at a quick glance without reading
all the information. I like the pictures and fonts. I had previously been on an
NCT antenatal class so I had received lots of information on this already. It
reinforced what I had already been told. If I had not been on this course I
probably would have found the women’s guide to drug free pain relief very
useful. The instructions were easy to follow and had lots of pictures in it
which helped with the understanding. During the earlier stages of labour when
it is intended to be used it was very effective. During established labour I
removed it and used gas and air as it was having little effect. The built in
contraction timer was very useful. Since it started automatically when you pressed
the boost my partner could focus on me rather than a separate contraction
timer. I used the boost button during every contraction and it seemed to reduce
the pain. The adhesive pads were easy to place due to the diagrams in the
instructions and the instructions themselves. They were effective for around 16
hours and then started to peel off after this time. We had to use micropore
tape over the top to hold them in place. This tens machine enabled me to stay
very mobile. I was walking, bouncing on the ball, on all fours and kneeling
with it on. It is excellent quality and other than the pads peeling off we had
no problems. I would like to try to use it for pelvic floor toning as during
pregnancy I had incontinence problems and want to ensure I do everything I can
to prevent this continuing. It is quite expensive and would possibly be out of
my price range but due to all the functions it has I think it is quite good
value for money. I would buy it and recommend it to others; for early stages of
labour. I really like how easy this was to use and all the extra features it

The pink colour on the unit and accessories makes the
product stand out and catches your eye. The packaging looks smart and has a lot
of information on it without being too off putting. When you open the box the
TENS unit is visible straight away with the other accessories and information
leaflets hidden behind another cardboard sleeve which draws your eye straight
to the product itself. The women’s guide to drug free pain relief was ok; maybe
a little too much information; bit over whelming! This has very easy to follow
instructions; in the beginning stages of labour I remembered how to use the
product without having to read all the instructions again. I was in early
labour for 4 hours and managed with no other pain relief. My second stage of labour was 30 minutes and
Ava was born within 6 minutes of arriving on the delivery suite…with no other
pain relief other than the TENS! The built in contraction timer was very
useful…it enabled me to let the midwives know how close together my
contractions were without having to use another device or remember to count
myself. I used the product the whole way through but would say the product was
more effective during the first stage as it enabled me to stay drug free. I
used the booster button with every contraction I had; such a useful feature! I
managed to place the adhesive pads on my back myself; my husband missed first
half of labour as was at home with our toddler! I used a gym ball to stay active
during the first stage; the lanyard that comes with the product is very useful
to keep your hands free and enable free movement without having the worry about
holding onto the machine all the time. The quality of the TENS machine seemed a
little plastic like but overall quality of product and screen were good. I will
use this in the future with pelvic floor toning. I would consider buying it
again; but I wouldn’t pay £99 for it…I would consider if I saw on offer for
around £75. I would recommend it to family and friends. The Elle+ TENS machine
enabled me to labour without the need for any other pain relief, making me feel
